The Red Devils were recently interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Benjamin Pavard, but a deal fell through as Harry Maguire refused to leave the club.
Before making a formal approach to sign the World Cup champion from Bayern, United planned to recuperate monies through Maguire’s transfer to West Ham United.
Inter Milan and Pavard have reached a verbal agreement, and the trade will be completed whenever the German champions find a suitable replacement.
In the midst of all of this, L’Equipe reports that Todibo is on United’s radar and that a move to Old Trafford is ‘in sight’. Nice currently values him at €40 million.
United manager Erik ten Hag was initially interested in signing Pavard from Bayern Munich, but it has been claimed that the Dutchman has also discussed a move with Todibo.
Todibo’s transfer to United may still be contingent on Maguire’s departure.
Over the past year, the Frenchman has been one of the top center-backs in Ligue 1. He completed 57 passes per game with an accuracy of 89% last season.
He averaged 2.2 tackles, 4.4 duels, and 3.1 clearances per game. The 23-year-old has also impressed us with his speed of recuperation, and we believe he would be an excellent addition.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are Ten Hag’s favorite starters, but the former has been prone to injury. Todibo will have a chance to make the starting lineup.
He would be a good piece of business for United at the amount given, but the big question is whether the club has the means to purchase him in the coming days.
United were primarily relying on Maguire’s departure to further Pavard negotiations. The board opted to withdraw from the competition for Maguire as soon as he rejected West Ham.
With Financial Fair Play worries, a move for Todibo could still be contingent on Maguire’s departure. Otherwise, it may be dependent on United obtaining sufficient revenue from other prospective departures.
