According to transfer source Dean Jones, Manchester United could rekindle their interest in Leeds United defensive midfielder Tyler Adams this summer since he has a relegation release clause in his present contract at Elland Road.
What clubs are interested in Tyler Adams this summer?
The Daily Mail reports that Aston Villa is willing to activate Adams’ £25 million release clause, and Chelsea has also indicated interest in bringing the USA international to Stamford Bridge.
Other clubs interested in the injured midfielder are Nottingham Forest, Brighton & Hove Albion, and West Ham United. He has been out since March with a hamstring injury.
Adams was a rare bright spot in a bleak Leeds United squad last season, appearing in 26 games across all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.
Football Insider claimed earlier this year that Manchester United had looked at Adams as a potential summer signing and had been pleased by his ‘dynamism and intensity’ in the engine room at Elland Road.
According to the Mirror, Fiorentina defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is reportedly a target for the Red Devils as Erik Ten Hag looks to shore up his back four. The Moroccan international is said to be anxious to transfer to the North West, despite interest from West Ham and Saudi Arabia.
According to Football FanCast, transfer insider Jones believes that Leeds United midfielder Adams may be considered again at Old Trafford if Manchester United’s pursuit of Amrabat fails.
“It’s not very common to see Manchester United and Leeds looking to benefit from each other in terms of transfers, and the hostility between the two clubs will always exist, but at this point when they are in very different situations in different leagues, it’s intriguing to think about how they could deal with each other,” Jones said.
“The coverage surrounding Adams having a release clause is really eye-opening, and United have definitely looked at him in the past, so if a deal for Amrabat doesn’t materialize, maybe that is something they could look at, especially since Leeds are linked with Brandon Williams and teams might be talking to each other anyway.”
“I know a couple of clubs have been slightly deterred by Adams’ recent injury, but it would still be a surprise if he was at Leeds by the end of the window.”
What is Manchester United’s next step?
Manchester United will hope to continue their sensible recruitment this summer as Ten Hag seeks to construct a team capable of fighting for the Premier League title.
Jonny Evans, a Northern Ireland international who signed a short-term contract with Manchester United to participate in pre-season, is reportedly close to signing a one-year contract at Old Trafford after excelling during his brief spell at the club, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
The Red Devils could also try to outbid Liverpool for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia; but, according to The Independent, Chelsea and Arsenal have also shown interest in the Belgian international.
According to Sky Sports, Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund will be revealed as a Manchester United player soon after both parties agreed on a cost of £72 million for the Denmark international, who has had a physical at his probable new employers.
