Manchester United has put record-breaking adolescent Christopher Atherton on trial.
Manchester United sealed the signing of 16-year-old Watford prospect Harry Amass last week.
The club is still looking for the best young players in the British Isles, and a promising player from Northern Ireland has been invited to trial.
Christopher Atherton, a young prospect, has been at Carrington for a trial, according to Manchester United Youth on Instagram.
Manchester United is putting Christopher Atherton on trial.
At the weekend, Christopher Atherton took part in an under-15s friendly game at Carrington.
The kid made news last year when he made his first team debut for Glenavon at the age of 13.
As a result, he became the youngest professional footballer in the United Kingdom. He has now appeared four times as a substitute, each time for slightly over an hour in total minutes.
Chelsea has also expressed an interest.
Last year, the Belfast Telegraph reported that clubs across the UK, including Manchester City and Chelsea, were interested in signing Atherton.
He was on trial at Chelsea last year but is leaving his options open for the time being. Rangers and Dundee United have both expressed an interest.
Now 14, the Northern Ireland under-16s international is on trial at Manchester United, and he posted a picture of himself in Red Devils gear on Instagram on Saturday.
What happens with Atherton’s trial at Manchester United is unknown, although it’s reasonable that the Red Devils want to get a first-hand look at him.
If United completes the transaction, he will not be rushed into the first-team mix; instead, he will be assigned to his age group and will have to prove himself. It’s a tempting task for Atherton.
