After agreeing on a loan arrangement that benefits all sides, Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku will fly to Italy today to have his AS Roma medical.
Chelsea will now have the space and cash to go all out for another forward, with Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho among the candidates being considered by the Chelsea board.
With Christopher Nkunku sidelined, Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a striker and creator to support Nicolas Jackson. Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe has also been mentioned, as have other forward players.
Sancho joined Manchester United from Dortmund two years ago, but his time at Old Trafford has been abysmal, he’s been left out of the England squad and hasn’t played regularly in the last six months.
Many consider Chelsea manager Pochettino to be a man who can bring out the best in his players, and Sancho’s career may be revived in west London.
The former Manchester United player is the appropriate age for the Chelsea project and can play as a number 10 as well as out wide on occasion.
The Blues manager revealed he was looking for another forward to fill the void: “If we can add the right profile, yes,” he replied, “but not to bring players so we can add one more.” We don’t want to halt the development of these young men, Broja and Nkunku.”
The Blues have had a solid start to the league season, having won one, drawn one, and lost their first three games.
