Erik ten Hag’s team has had a shaky start to the season, having been defeated by Tottenham and having to come from two goals down to defeat Nottingham Forest at home on Saturday.
Ten Hag is presently missing Mason Mount, and another new addition, Rasmus Hojlund, has yet to make an appearance, while the club’s injury difficulties at left-back may push them to look for a replacement.
Varane, Raphael
Raphael Varane was replaced at halftime in the win over Nottingham Forest, though Erik ten Hag’s post-match comments suggested the substitution was purely precautionary.
“He had complaints, and we didn’t want to risk him,” said Ten Hag.
“We know we have good replacements in Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.” So we don’t take the chance, but we don’t know what the complaint is or whether it’s truly awful. We must wait.”
Possible return date: September 3rd, versus. Arsenal
Mount Mason
Mason Mount will be sidelined until after the international break next month, according to Manchester United, due to a “minor complaint.”
The nature of the injury has not been disclosed, although Mount is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering the injury against Tottenham.
The home game against Brighton immediately following the international break may be too soon, with a return a week later against Burnley a possibility.
Possible return date: September 23rd vs. Burnley.
Rasmus Hojlund is a Swedish actor.
Rasmus Hojlund is yet to make his Manchester United debut after joining from Atalanta for £72 million, but Ten Hag hinted before of the Forest game that the striker may play Arsenal this weekend.
“Not for tomorrow,” United’s manager remarked last Friday.
“[He’s] close. He came into team training for the first time today, so we expect him to do a full week of team training next week so he can be close to the squad.”
Possible return date: September 3rd, versus. Arsenal
Mr. Luke Shaw
Ten Hag stated that Luke Shaw, like Mount, will be absent for an extended period of time.
The left-back has a muscular injury, and the club says he will be out for “a few weeks.” However, reports believe that Shaw’s problem is more serious, and a return before October seems improbable.
Date of possible return: October 2023
Tyrell Malacia is a surname.
Tyrell Malacia was injured during the pre-season tour to the United States and has yet to appear in the Premier League this season.
Malacia will be out for “a few weeks” with an unidentified injury, according to Ten Hag, with the left-back expected to be out until after the international break at the very least.
Possible return date: September 23rd vs. Burnley.
Mr. Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo will miss the start of the season after injuring his ankle against Real Madrid in pre-season.
Ten Hag reported earlier this month that the teenager might be back in contention by the beginning of November, if not sooner.
“At the moment, he’s not available, but I believe he will be in one to two months,” Ten Hag stated. “He will be available in two months, not one month.”
“And so, for the upcoming winter, he will undoubtedly have his games.”
November 2023 as a possible return date
Heaton, Tom
Tom Heaton has been ruled out of the first three Premier League games of the season.
The goalie is sidelined with a calf injury sustained on the eve of the new season, but he may be able to return after the international break in September.
Return date: September 16 vs. Brighton
Diallo, Amad
Amad Diallo also suffered a pre-season knee injury versus Arsenal in the United States.
The club announced Diallo would miss the “first part” of the season, but no further information on his recovery has been offered.
