Manchester United midfielder Antony led condolences to Serbian footballer Dusan Tadic, who confirmed his exit from Ajax.
Since joining the Dutch side in 2018, the 34-year-old has made 241 appearances, earning three Eredivisie titles, two KNCB Cups, and the Johan Cruyff Shield.
Tadic scored 105 goals and assisted 112 others during his time at Ajax, becoming one of the continent’s most prolific midfielders. He won all of those trophies while playing for Erik Ten Hag, who bought him from Southampton five years ago.
Last week, the star’s contract at Ajax was mutually ended, a surprising announcement that alerted clubs hunting for a proven midfielder, including Manchester United.
According to the Sun and the Daily Express, ten Hag was enticed by the possibility of bringing Tadic to Old Trafford on a free transfer due to the pair’s connection and the player’s European talent.
Indeed, ten Hag wasn’t the only United fan, with Antony referring to the player as a ‘legend’ for his achievements at Ajax – the Brazilian played with the Serb during his stint at the Dutch club between 2020 and 2022.
Tadic posted on Instagram, “As my time at @afcajax comes to an end, my heart is filled with emotions.” It’s been a great adventure at this incredible club. Countless moments and accomplishments that I will cherish for the rest of my life!
“I am extremely grateful for the time I’ve spent here and the opportunity to play Ajax football.” The Ajax ideology has always been and will always be a part of my player identity.
“To the lovely fans, thank you for your constant support. Your enthusiasm has propelled our performances, and I am grateful for your extraordinary dedication. YOU are the reason Ajax players can grow and shine – you are Ajax’s heart!
