WHERE WILL GREENWOOD GO NEXT?
Mason Greenwood will never play for Manchester United again (yeah), but he will play football someplace, and The Times reports that ‘United had received numerous phone calls from clubs across Europe and the Middle East’, with Istanbul Basaksehir being the only club mentioned in that story.
The Sun, on the other hand, expressly mentions Al-Ettifaq, the Saudi Arabian team managed by Steven Gerrard, and a £10 million-per-year contract. They also cite Galatasaray of Turkey and Roma of Jose Mourinho. Greenwood’s talents are well known to the Portuguese, who was the first Manchester United boss to have him in his first-team squad.
LEARNED THE GRAVE PRICE
Given the fees being paid for central midfielders this summer, this appears absurd, but the Mirror reports that Bayern Munich is only asking £22 million for Ryan Gravenberch, who is wanted by both Liverpool and Manchester United.
We know the Dutchman is surplus to requirements – Bayern also has Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Konrad Laimer – but that appears to be a pretty acceptable price. That should be within United’s budget since the club would desire to reconcile him with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag. However, Gravenberch is thought to be interested in Liverpool, as he was last summer before moving to Munich for an ultimately disappointing season.
AMRABAT REMAINING FOR MAN UTD
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United seemed to have a commanding lead on Sofyan Amrabat after Liverpool’s interest ceased when they signed Japan captain Wataru Endo.
“Reds made contact with Sofyan Amrabat’s camp to inquire about how much the player would cost on Fiorentina’s side.” Among all the terms of the trade, the contract terms are mentioned. It was a fantastic dialogue, but Liverpool ultimately decided to put that money in Endo for a variety of reasons,” Romano explained.
“From what I’m hearing right now, I believe. They are no longer in contact with Fiorentina or with the players, therefore I don’t see Amrabat joining Liverpool.
“I still think he has a very good chance to leave the club in the final days of the window, but not for Liverpool.”
