Fred tells Antony what Manchester United teammates will do for him
Man United midfielder Fred hailed Antony and promised to assist him in settling in at Old Trafford.
Fred has praised new Manchester United teammate and countryman Antony as a “fantastic player” and believes he will adapt fast to the Premier League.
The Brazilian was purchased for an undisclosed cost that could increase to £85 million on deadline day, and he might make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday. The 22-year-old rejoins former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, with whom he won consecutive Eredivisie titles.
Antony has represented his country nine times, six of those alongside Fred, who praised the winger for being a regular member of the national team group with the World Cup just around the way.
“Everyone recognizes him as a fantastic player,” he told ESPN Brasil. “He did so well at Ajax in the last few years that he was called up to the Brazilian national squad.”
“It’s not easy to make the Brazilian national team, but he’s there.” And, as everyone knows, he’s a fantastic player with exceptional skill. He’s also incisive and skilled at getting to the goal.”
Fred committed to helping Antony settle into life at United in order for him to maintain the strong form he displayed at Ajax, where he scored twice in three games this season after a 12-goal and 10-assist haul last season.
“I’m hoping he can adjust fast and provide a lot of quality to our assault,” he continued. “So those of us who have been here a little longer will assist him in swiftly adapting and feeling comfortable enough to enter the pitch and offer his best.”
Antony becomes United’s fourth Brazilian signing, following Casemiro and Alex Telles, who has been loaned out to Sevilla. Before reaching a judgment on whether Antony will play against Arsenal, United will observe how he performs in two training sessions before Sunday.
