Man United player ratings vs Leicester as Raphael Varane superb and Christian Eriksen good
The Manchester United players evaluated themselves after Jadon Sancho’s strike sealed a 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.
De Gea, David
In his greatest performance this season, he was much better with the ball at his feet and denied James Maddison with a fantastic save. 7
Dalot, Diogo
Did a fantastic job get the relocation started? Jadon Sancho scored after being proactive in attack and smooth on the ball, but he was booked. 7
Varane, Raphael
He didn’t make a single mistake the entire night, and it’s strange to imagine he was temporarily fourth-choice center-back in pre-season. Another outstanding performance. 8
Martinez, Lisandro
Leicester striker Jamie Vardy was brought off in the final five minutes after doing admirably against him. In another outstanding performance, defended tenaciously. 8
Malacia, Tyrell
Until he was brutally booked for upending Boubakary Soumare, he was quietly efficient. Another strong but understated performance. 7
McTominay, Scott
As Leicester sought to entice him into tight traps, he anchored the middle with discipline. Panicked at times in the second half, but played well. 6
Eriksen, Christian
Elegant on the ball, he kept United’s play moving. United showed superb control, barely wasting a pass. 7
Fernandes, Bruno
Hit his cue in the play that led to Sancho’s goal, and he wasn’t as wasteful with the ball as he was at Southampton. The final third could have been more intense. 6
Elanga, Anthony
He provided energy up front but was ineffective with the ball, and he was replaced after only 15 minutes of the second half. 5
Sancho Jadon
Took a great goal to put United up 1-0, his second of the season. After that, he was quiet and made way for Cristiano Ronaldo. 7
Rashford, Marcus
He wonderfully timed his assist for Sancho and was much better through the middle than on Saturday, but he never looked like scoring. 6
Subs
Casemiro
He was proactive in his passes and only made a huge mistake once. 6
Ronaldo, Cristiano
The ball was used well. and possibly had a goal. 6
Fred
Came on to finish the game. 6
Manager
Many were surprised when he named an unchanged starting lineup, but United dominated the first half, and he acted proactively in the second half by sending Casemiro on soon. 7
