Manchester United has reportedly chosen to loan Mason Greenwood out for next season, despite interest from all across Europe in the striker. Greenwood has not played for United in 16 months after being arrested in connection with charges involving photographs and videos circulated on social media.
In October 2022, he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm, but those charges were dismissed in February of this year. United responded to the withdrawn accusations by launching its own internal investigation, during which Greenwood was suspended.
There was no official timeline set for the probe, although sources indicated that a decision would be made before the start of the next season. According to the Daily Mail, that internal probe is still ongoing.
However, it has been rumored that the club is considering loaning Greenwood out for next season.
Greenwood’s most likely destinations are said to be Italy, Spain, and Turkey. The plan is to loan out the striker for up to a year to give the team a “further period of reflection.”
It would also allow United to assess how Greenwood adjusts to playing professional football on a regular basis. However, according to the source, United could still release the 21-year-old, who has two years left on his present contract.
