Simons is leaving PSV to return to Paris Saint-Germain after they activated his buy-back clause, but he is unlikely to join Manchester United and will instead go on loan to Leipzig.
Nonetheless, it appears that the Red Devils were interested in the outstanding 20-year-old since they wanted to inquire about his position earlier in the summer before deciding to focus on other objectives.
United are well-stocked in the attacking midfield position, having signed Christian Eriksen last summer and Mason Mount this year, as well as the brilliant Bruno Fernandes.
Simons may have been another interesting option, but it doesn’t appear that will happen for MUFC anytime soon.
“Erik ten Hag knows that Amrabat is on the market and it could be one to watch,” Romano said of United and midfielders. “There is also an awareness that Fiorentina is difficult to negotiate with, so he won’t come cheap.” He is one of the names on United’s list for that role.
“Another player who was considered earlier this summer was Xavi Simons, who is now back at PSG after PSV triggered their buy-back clause.” It was simply a contact between Manchester United and Xavi Simons’ side to understand what was going on between PSV, PSG, and others.
“Manchester United values Simons and wanted to be kept up to date on his situation, but nothing is happening because they already have many players in his position, and he will most likely join RB Leipzig on loan as his next move.”
“United has also been linked in some reports with Leon Goretzka, but I’m not aware of anything concrete for Goretzka right now.” Bayern can’t afford to lose too many players in that position, therefore there’s nothing definitive at the moment.”
