According to the Daily Star, Manchester United walked out of talks to buy goalkeeper Jordan Pickford because Everton requested £70 million for the England international.
According to the daily tabloid newspaper, Pickford was top of United’s transfer list to replace long-serving shot-stopper David de Gea, but the hefty sum prompted the club to settle for Inter Milan’s second-choice Andre Onana.
According to the source, the Red Devils were hoping to capture Pickford for £45 million due to Everton’s financial difficulties but were stunned by the Toffees’ extravagant demands for the 29-year-old.
Pickford was a key figure for Everton last season, helping them stay in the Premier League. He kept a clean sheet in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the last league game to avoid relegation.
The England shot-stopper appeared in 38 games in all competitions, keeping eight clean sheets. Pickford has extensive club and international experience and would have been a terrific addition to Erik Ten Hag’s squad.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United were forced to withdraw from talks to purchase Pickford due to Everton’s £70 million valuation, and they instead focused on signing Andre Onana.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, United are close to concluding a deal for the Cameroon international. Man United will pay an initial fee of roughly £41m to £43m (€48m to €50m), with potential add-ons bringing the total fee to £47m (€55m).
United have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea, and Onana would be the club’s second summer acquisition if all goes as planned.
After leading Inter Milan to the Champions League finals last season, the 27-year-old is considered one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers in the world. He preserved eight clean sheets in 41 games for the Nerazzurri, who finished third in the league.
