Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero recently praised Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez, labeling him as the best defender in the world. During an interview with Prime Video Sport, Romero was asked to rank his top five Argentinian players in the Premier League.
Romero placed Martinez in the top spot, expressing his belief that Martinez is the world’s premier defender. Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister claimed third place, while Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez secured second place.
Romero also paid tribute to former Spurs player Osvaldo Ardiles, who took the fifth spot, with Sergio Aguero occupying the fourth position. Notably, Romero did not include his current Argentinian teammates Giovani Lo Celso and Alejo Veliz in his top five.
Romero shares a strong partnership with Martinez at the international level, and this synergy has extended to Tottenham, where they play alongside Micky van de Ven. Despite van de Ven’s recent arrival at the club, their chemistry on the field appears as though they’ve been teammates for years.
Tottenham fans have witnessed impressive developments in their defense under manager Ange Postecoglou, with Pedro Porro excelling at right-back and Destiny Udogie showcasing promise on the opposite flank. While Romero may hope to have Martinez as his partner at Tottenham, he is undoubtedly enjoying his football under the new Postecoglou era.
The 25-year-old defender joined the club in 2021 and has yet to experience significant success under previous managers. However, the current era under Postecoglou appears to hold immense potential and optimism for him.
