Shea Lacey, a promising young talent from Manchester United, continues to make his mark on the international stage, showcasing his potential for England’s under-17 squad.
In a recent feature, we identified Manchester United’s six most promising prospects who aim to follow in the footsteps of Kobbie Mainoo and break into the first team. Shea Lacey was among the highlighted talents.
At just 16 years old, Lacey may be a year or more away from making his debut with the senior squad, but he is already flourishing within the academy, demonstrating significant progress in his development.
This week, Shea Lacey once again showcased his abilities with an outstanding performance for England’s under-17 team. He played a key role in their 3-0 victory over Norway.
Lacey started as a right-winger and made an immediate impact by scoring the opening goal of the game towards the end of the first half. In the early stages of the second half, he showcased his playmaking abilities by providing an assist to Tottenham prospect Mikey Moore with a well-placed cross.
In just four matches for England’s under-17 side, Shea Lacey has amassed an impressive total of six goal contributions, including three goals and three assists.
This impressive international form adds to his productive season within Manchester United’s academy teams, particularly in the UEFA Youth League, where he has already registered five goal contributions in six games during the 2023/24 season. Given his rapid progress, it’s quite likely that he may earn a call-up to the under-21 squad before the end of the season.
In addition to Lacey’s performance, another Manchester United prospect, Harry Amass, appeared as a second-half substitute in the under-17 victory for England, contributing to the growing presence of young Red Devils players on the international stage. Midfielder Jayce Fitzgerald, who hails from United, was an unused substitute, boasting three youth caps for England.
This bodes well for the future, and Manchester United fans can look forward to witnessing more exciting developments from these talented players in the upcoming year.
