In Manchester United’s impressive 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup’s third round, Alejandro Garnacho, one of the goal-scorers, expressed admiration for Hannibal Mejbri’s performance.
Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro, and Anthony Martial secured the victory, marking a significant improvement in United’s performance.
Hannibal Mejbri played a crucial role in the match, showcasing his talent in the middle of the pitch. Deployed alongside Facundo Pellistri and Garnacho in support of Martial, the 20-year-old Tunisian put in a brilliant display during his 71 minutes on the field.
Garnacho was evidently impressed by Mejbri’s performance, taking to Instagram to comment on the Tunisian player’s post.
Manchester United is in need of quality cover in the number 10 position to enhance their campaign, and Mejbri, an academy graduate, could potentially provide the solution.
Mejbri displayed brilliance in recent Premier League matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley, notably scoring a spectacular goal in the former match.
Although he received a yellow card in the 29th minute for a rash challenge, Mejbri’s overall performance merits regular playing time this season.
Mejbri’s contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season, but there is an option to extend it for an additional year. The club is expected to trigger this option and is also planning to initiate talks with the attacker regarding a new long-term deal.
Having joined the Red Devils for €10 million from AS Monaco as a 16-year-old in 2019, Mejbri spent the previous season on loan in the Championship with Birmingham City. His recent complete 90-minute performance against Burnley has raised the question of whether he can secure a place in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
