According to a fresh rumor, Manchester United is interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze if the club’s pursuit of Mason Mount fails.
Erik Ten Hag’s top midfield objective is Mount.
Chelsea reportedly rejected United’s first offer of £40 million for Mount.
Chelsea valued its academy graduate at over £70 million.
According to Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils will make another approach for Mount in the next few days, but will not go past £60 million.
Chelsea now has the ball in their court. The Blues might lose their top midfielder for free next summer. Mount has made it quite obvious that he will not sign a new contract to extend his stint at Stamford Bridge.
United has Eze on its radar and believes he can be an alternative to Mount, according to Give Me Sport.
“Ten Hag wants more goals from midfield next season, and it’s understood United have had Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze under review since Christmas,” the outlet adds.
Eze had a fantastic season with the Eagles, who finished 11th in the Premier League.
Last season, the 24-year-old scored 10 goals in 38 Premier League games. Only Bruno Fernandes scored more goals for Manchester United’s midfield options. He also contributed four assists.
Eze is worth €30 million according to Transfermarkt. At that price, he’s arguably significantly better value than Mount.
Eze made his England debut on Friday, as the Three Lions defeated Malta 4-1 in a Euro 2024 qualifier.
He came on in the second half to replace James Maddison.
