In a mixed new update on Victor Osimhen’s future, Manchester United look to have been given additional transfer encouragement.
The reigning Serie A top scorer is understood to be one of Erik Ten Hag’s main alternative striker targets, who now appears to have conceded defeat in the club’s attempts to convince Tottenham to transfer England captain Harry Kane.
The Nigerian international has just helped Napoli win their first Scudetto since 1990, scoring 31 goals in 39 games across all competitions this season, giving him 59 goals in total since signing from Lille in 2020.
Such dazzling form has long ago inevitably led to huge interest in Osimhen from across Europe, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid all widely linked.
Napoli undoubtedly wants to keep their most valuable asset, which is thought to be worth £100 million, but the player has not ruled out a high-profile transfer this summer.
In addressing Osimhen’s future once more on Monday evening, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reiterated that they have reached an initial agreement on a two-year contract extension at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but that the striker might still be moved for the right price.
“I’ve been saying for a long time that Osimhen must stay. Then, if an offer came in that I couldn’t refuse for the sake of Napoli, we’d look into it, as is only logical,” he told Football Italia.
“We talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year contract extension.” The other players are something we need to explore with [new Napoli head coach] Rudi [Garcia], because I have been convinced for many years that pre-season training is essential.”
