According to a fresh rumor, Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga has turned down a move to Everton.
When he came into the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in the 2021/22 season, the academy standout looked destined to make the mark at Old Trafford.
Under Rangnick, Elanga was sometimes chosen ahead of Marcus Rashford.
Last season, though, things went sour for the Swede under Erik ten Hag, who played him less and less as the season progressed.
With Elanga describing the situation as “frustrating” and the club eager to sell players to raise finances, it was widely assumed that he would be one of the first players out the door this summer.
Everton, along with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Nottingham Forest, and Galatasaray, were among the first clubs to enter the race.
However, according to The Daily Mail, the youthful winger has turned down the opportunity to join the Toffees.
“Despite his desire to leave Old Trafford, he will not join Sean Dyche’s side,” The Mail says.
“Everton held direct talks with Elanga, but the player has ruled out a transfer due to concerns about his suitability for Dyche’s tactics.”
This is not to say that the 21-year-old will not be leaving this summer. According to the site, he has also chosen his future club.
Of course, United cannot force Elanga to join a club he does not want to join, but if it is true that he has his heart set on one particular club, this significantly weakens United’s hand in discussions.
Meanwhile, the Swede has flown out with the rest of the squad for United’s tour of the United States, which begins tomorrow with a game against Arsenal in New Jersey.
