As unlikely as it may appear, Neymar is once again being linked with a summer move to Manchester United.
According to the most recent rumors from the French website Foot Mercato, more activity appears to be coming from Neymar’s end than from United’s.
According to the source, Neymar is interested in Manchester United and is the only club for whom he is willing to leave PSG.
Even if he has received a substantial financial offer, he is not lured by a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Neymar scored 18 goals and had 13 assists this season before being sidelined by injury in February.
Neymar’s departure is doubtful.
Manchester United are unlikely to sign Neymar this summer, even if he is made available on loan.
For United, Neymar would be a costly ‘quick fix’ option that would not solve the club’s long-standing problem right away.
Ally McCoist of Talksport downplayed the possibility of any Premier League club pursuing Neymar, saying, “I’m not sure it’s a circus, but there’s certainly baggage.” To be completely honest, the more I think about it, the more it appears to be a circus. You don’t need all of that baggage.”
According to BBC Sport, PSG paid a stunning £200 million to sign Neymar from Barcelona at the time.
The French publication L’Equipe reported earlier this month that United and PSG were in talks about Neymar.
However, Sky Sports provided some explanation, reporting that United was one of several teams approached by intermediaries on Neymar’s behalf.
According to the article, “he is not currently a United target.”
If Footmercato is correct and he has set his sights on a future move to Manchester United, he is likely to be disappointed.
