This season, the Atalanta striker has 11 goals and two assists in 36 matches in all competitions for the Serie A club.
Hojlund has also performed admirably for Denmark, scoring six goals in four games during their European Championship qualification campaign.
And that form has piqued the interest of a number of clubs throughout Europe, with Manchester United being widely connected with the 20-year-old Dane.
As previously stated, Hojlund does not come with the ‘promise’ of Premier League goals like Harry Kane, which Erik ten Hag is hoping for, but he does have a lot of potentials.
And Romano now claims that Manchester United has made a move for Hojlund, with the Red Devils holding negotiations with Atalanta about a possible trade.
“As I’ve mentioned a few times, Manchester United have been showing an interest in Rasmus Hojlund, and now there’s been a significant update,” Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column.
“I’m told Manchester United has made direct contact with Atalanta regarding the possible signing of Hojlund.” They believe personal terms will not be an issue, and the mood is upbeat because Hojlund wants to transfer to Old Trafford.
“The important thing now is Atalanta’s price demands – they have set a starting price of €60m, but it may now have risen to €70m, so it could be complicated.”
“However, United has made him a concrete target because Erik ten Hag really likes him – it’s not advanced yet, but the interest is strong, so let’s see how things develop.”
Anthony Martial is one striker who might leave Manchester United, according to French football analyst Jonathan Johnson, who believes the former Monaco man could return to Ligue 1.
“I could see Anthony Martial returning to France this summer, and one potential landing spot could be Lyon,” Johnson told Caught Offside. Martial came through the junior academy there before heading to Monaco and breaking through at the senior level, and Lyon likes to try to bring back some of their indigenous stars.
“It would certainly surprise me if Martial stayed at Old Trafford, so this could be an interesting option for Lyon to consider.” France appears to be the logical spot for him to try to resurrect his career, but whether this is a loan or a permanent move remains to be seen.
“After a frustrating few years, something has to change for Martial.” He’s just never found that consistency or lived up to expectations, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Lyon tried to give him a chance. Lens may also find him appealing, considering that they have qualified for the Champions League and may lose Lois Openda.
“It’s a shame to see Martial struggle so much because he’s such a gifted player.” There have been questions raised about him and his lifestyle off the field.
