What’s the latest on Xavi Simons’ potential move to Manchester United?
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are one of several clubs interested in PSV offensive midfielder Xavi Simons.
His former club, though, has the option to sign him back from the Dutch side for a bargain £5 million, which might block Erik ten Hag from signing the gifted ace.
“EXCL: Paris Saint-Germain’s buy-back clause for Xavi Simons is only €6 million!” the reporter tweeted. It is only available from July 1st until July 31st.
“The final decision is solely the player’s.” He is awaiting word from PSG. Manchester United, Arsenal, Brighton, Spurs, BVB, and Leipzig have all requested to be notified.”
What is Xavi Simons’ playing style?
The 20-year-old maestro is a dynamic attacker who can play anywhere along the frontline and has consistently demonstrated his ability to score and create goals over the previous year.
Simons is a natural number 10, but he has also played out wide and as a center-forward, and he could be the long-term heir to Bruno Fernandes, who is over eight years his junior.
The Portuguese man, who turns 29 this year, has been a standout performer for the club as an attacking midfielder in recent years, producing goals and assists on a weekly basis.
Fernandes has 64 goals and 54 assists in 185 appearances in all competitions, which means the mercurial ace has a goal contribution per 1.57 games on average.
Simons, who is worth roughly €34.5 million (£30 million) according to Football Transfers, is a player who has the ability to reproduce that form in the future if he can adjust to English football.
The former PSG prodigy, dubbed “magic” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.52 and produced 19 goals and eight assists in 34 Eredivisie games for PSV in 22/23, a direct involvement per 1.26 matches on average.
Despite only turning 20 in April, Simons accumulated 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the Dutch side, and has definitely piqued the curiosity of a number of major European clubs.
There is no guarantee that the dynamic genius will be able to adapt that form to the Premier League, but his strong performances for PSV suggest that signing him is a smart investment because he might eventually take over as United’s main number 10 from Fernandes.
