Mason Mount’s “preferred option” was Liverpool, according to LondonsFirst, before Manchester United sealed a deal with Chelsea for the midfielder during the summer transfer window.
“Liverpool was Mount’s preferred option, and Fewings was known to have good connections inside Liverpool,” the report adds.
“However, it is understood that Manchester United offered the best financial package, and it is possible that Liverpool also had difficulties in negotiations with Mount’s side, but this is just a theory.”
According to Sky Sports, United would pay Premier League opponent Chelsea an initial fee of £55 million for Mount’s services.
Is Mason Mount more effective at Liverpool or Manchester United?
Mason Mount, a Chelsea midfielder, may thrive at Manchester United, just as he would at Liverpool if he moved to Anfield.
Mount is a dynamic midfielder who is excellent on the ball and works hard off it.
The England international can drive the team forward and has a terrific passing range.
True, Mount did not have the best of seasons last season, but neither did many other Chelsea players.
Liverpool and Manchester United are both large clubs with global brands that play progressive, attacking football.
We don’t believe Mount made a mistake by choosing United over Liverpool this summer.
Mount has made 129 Premier League outings in his career.
In those games, the midfielder has 27 goals and 22 assists.
