Manchester United are now looking for a new goalkeeper and striker after negotiating a fee with Chelsea for Mason Mount. The England international is expected to join Manchester United for a cost of £60 million. Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, wants extra reinforcements as he pursues Premier League gold next season.
Manchester United spent the first several weeks of the summer attempting to sign Mount.
After having three bids for the England international knocked down, they finally struck gold on Thursday.
United is pleased with Mount’s transfer, believing the 24-year-old has the ability to thrive in the middle of the park with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.
They are now planning to move on to other targets.
Old Trafford is looking for a new goalkeeper, with David De Gea due to leave on a free transfer on Friday.
The Spain international is a modern-day legend at the club, having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
But, while United had hoped De Gea would stay, there now appears to be a good likelihood the 32-year-old will go.
Al-Nassr has surfaced as a possible suitor for the Manchester United defender, who won the Premier League Golden Glove award last season.
Andre Onana is at the top of Ten Hag’s wishlist for potential replacements.
They previously worked together at Ajax in the Netherlands, where they helped the club win three Premier League titles.
Onana merely moved from Ajax to Inter Milan a year ago.
However, United is now confident that he will transfer to England and fill any vacuum created by David De Gea’s departure.
With Onana as their second aim, a new forward has been placed to the bottom of the priority list.
But make no mistake: United want to strengthen that section of their roster this summer.
The caliber of marksman they seek may be determined by player sales, with the Red Devils needing to balance their books in order to bring in a headline signing.
Some of the players who could be released include Scott McTominay, Fred, Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, and Jadon Sancho.
Despite the obvious challenges, United would want to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Another player of interest is Victor Osimhen, but Napoli would require a fee in excess of £100 million to do business.
Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani are also on the club’s radar, as are Goncalo Ramos and Dusan Vlahovic.
Despite speculation of a takeover, United is aiming to complete signings as soon as feasible.
And, other from Mount, who they can bring in remains to be seen.
However, a new goalie and striker are being prioritized.
However, if United’s budget allows for it, a new right-back cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has blasted Manchester United’s treatment of De Gea.
“Whether you think David de Gea is good enough or not, he’s been an incredible servant to the football club,” he said.
“I believe he’s been at the club for twelve years, has been player of the year four or five times, and has been the best player in a few of those years.”
“He had some rough patches, but on the whole, he served the club admirably.”
“There are many people who want him to leave, while others believe he should stay. They want a different type of goalkeeper, which is understandable.”
“Erik ten Hag has a goalkeeper type that he wants, and if De Gea isn’t that goalkeeper, then he has to hold his hands up and say, ‘You know what, I love it here, I’ve had a great run here, but if the manager doesn’t want me, then I have to go or be no.2’, whatever.”
“I’m just a little disappointed with how the club handled the David de Gea situation.” “I believe it all comes down to communication.”
