Martinez, Casemiro, Antony, and Christian Eriksen last summer. They also won the League Cup for the first time since 2016-17, albeit they were defeated by rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
This summer, Man Utd helped Ten Hag complete the next part of his first team revolution by bringing in Mason Mount and Andre Onana. Mount arrived for £60 million from Chelsea, while Onana joined for £47 million from Inter.
Ten Hag will also be able to employ a new striker in the near future, thanks to Manchester United’s agreement with Atalanta to sign Rasmus Hojlund. Man United will pay an initial fee of £64 million for the Dane, plus a further £8 million in add-ons.
While the three newcomers will be trying to make an impact in the coming months, winger Antony still needs to win over the Manchester United fans.
The Brazilian, who cost a record £86 million to sign from Ajax, showed flashes of talent last season but was not a consistent performer. Indeed, he irritated critics like Roy Keane by repeatedly taking a player on rather than getting a shot or cross away.
Jaap Stam, who played 127 times for Manchester United between 1998 and 2001, has spoken out on Antony. He believes the pricey attacker must step up his game one or two notches or risk being dropped by Ten Hag.
“You know Antony’s got quality, of course, on the ball,” the former Manchester United defender told the club’s media.
