The composition of Manchester United’s defense has shifted significantly over the last few seasons. Harry Maguire’s game time is an excellent example of this.
He did not miss a single Premier League game in his first season, 2019/20. He appeared in the league only 16 games this season, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane – both of whom signed after Maguire – favored over him.
Erik ten Hag appears to be interested in adding defensive reinforcements to his squad, with Maguire perhaps on his way out. Kim, a Napoli defender, appears to be at the top of his summer want list.
The defender has given his approval to the transaction, with a report at the end of May indicating that he was ‘patiently waiting for the beginning of the window to get his big move’ to United.
However, it appears that United and Napoli have not yet reached an agreement on the move. This is despite the fact that the Red Devils’ calculation appears to be a simple one, considering the defender’s alleged £51 million release clause.
In any case, they may soon reach an agreement, with Italian journalist Galetti speculating that a new round of talks will begin, allowing United the opportunity to smooth out the details.
“There is already a new round of meetings scheduled in the coming days in which Manchester United will try to finalize and reach a full agreement on personal terms,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“Then, in early July, the English club already planned to pay Napoli a €60 million release clause valid for 15 days in order to bring in the Korean player, followed by Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premier League.”
Indeed, United will be hoping that everything goes well, given the other parties who could cause them problems if they can’t reach a full agreement with both Napoli and Kim on the move.
