Since his arrival at Old Trafford this summer, the Manchester United midfielder has had his say about his role under Ten Hag.
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has spoken out about the position that Erik ten Hag has assigned to him at the club.
With the arrival of Casemiro at United this summer, Ten Hag gained a much-needed blend of steel and experience in his midfield. It took a little longer than many supporters expected for the midfielder to get his first Premier League start, but he certainly made it worthwhile.
The Brazilian was named Man of the Match after leading United to a 2-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. Casemiro showed off his close control and passing range after being dispossessed in the build-up to the Toffees’ first goal.
United’s new signing was unlucky not to score himself, as he headed wide in the first half. However, his stunning ball later set Cristiano Ronaldo away down the left side to score it 2-1.
Casemiro has now spoken out about his role in the club under Ten Hag, discussing his priorities on the field as well as his desire to add goals to his game.
He addressed the club’s internal press: “I believe that the objectives must come naturally. Everyone is familiar with my work. My defensive responsibility is to assist my teammates and bring the ball out of the back with quality. That’s my job; if it results in objectives, great. Other players’ initial thought is always to score goals.
“Cris [Cristiano Ronaldo], Jadon [Sancho], Marcus [Rashford], and Bruno [Fernandes] are among the players. They’re out there to score goals. First and foremost, I defend and balance the team.
“My job is to assist my teammates with defensive work and to bring the ball out with quality. A goal now and again is good, but performing my job and defending properly comes first.”
