Antony has spoken about his friendship with Erik ten Hag, as well as his sadness at Manchester United’s current position.
According to reports in the Netherlands on Friday, the 22-year-old did not practice with his present team despite being at the Ajax facilities. According to De Telegraaf, the Reds made an €80 million deal for the Brazilian, which was rejected by the Amsterdam club on Thursday.
Ten Hag, who handled Antony at Ajax, is a great fan of the wide forward and saw him as a possible summer acquisition when he arrived at United.
United abandoned a deal for Antony many weeks ago due to Ajax’s high asking price for the forward, but speculation about his future is picking up again.
Antony spoke with De Telegraaf about his admiration for United manager Jose Mourinho and his thoughts on the Reds’ start to the season.
“Erik has been extremely crucial to me,” Antony explained. “I am grateful to him and wish him the best of luck.” After working so closely with Erik, I will always root for him.
“I haven’t been able to applaud or cheer for him because he hasn’t yet received any points.” I couldn’t until now, which makes me sad. But knowing Erik, I am confident that he will quickly change the tide. Manchester United will benefit from his expertise. He has demonstrated that his strategy works at past clubs.”
