Manchester United receive potential boost in pursuit of David de Gea replacement as deal reaches next level aim January transfer

Manchester United's pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak may have received a boost.

 

According to The Mirror, Atletico Madrid has identified Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez as a possible successor for Oblak.

 

Oblak is widely recognized as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

 

United has been linked with a transfer for Oblak, who is regarded as a potential replacement for David de Gea.

 

Oblak signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid in the summer, which will last until the end of June 2028.

 

De Gea’s contract expires at the end of the season, although United has the option to extend it for another year. United is currently debating whether to extend the Spaniard’s contract.

 

Oblak has repeatedly impressed for Atletico Madrid and has extensive Champions League experience.

 

Since joining Atletico in 2014, he has made 360 appearances for the club.

 

Martinez has only played twice in the Champions League, both for Arsenal in 2014-15, but he has had a significant impact for Aston Villa in the Premier League since leaving the Gunners in 2020.
