Erik ten Hag was pleased with Andre Onana’s debut for Manchester United, despite the goalkeeper surrendering twice in a loss to Real Madrid.
Onana, a £47 million transfer from Inter Milan, made his debut for United and was beaten after just six minutes by Jude Bellingham’s exquisite chip.
Cameroon international Onana also conceded a late goal when Joselu beat him with a bicycle kick, although United manager Ten Hag lauded Onana’s overall effort.
“I think he was good, solid,” Ten Hag stated. “He made two very good saves, so he was there when the team needed him, he did his job, and he fit in well with our team.”

Onana’s primary contrast with De Gea is how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet, as he is vocal towards his defense during the game.
Onana is composed under pressure, is willing to play the ball out from the back to initiate plays, and is not hesitant to play higher up the pitch, practically in the center of the field.
“There are definitely principles,” Ten Hag stated. “But he’s a keeper who can be used as a plus one at the back, so we’ll definitely include him in our strategy and tactics.”
