The Red Devils secured the services of the Spanish international on a season-long loan from Spurs on deadline day, and Reguilon has already made two appearances for the club in various competitions.
In the recent 4-3 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich, the 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes and stood out as one of the best performers for Manchester United.
During a pre-match Q&A session before the Burnley game, Ten Hag expressed his satisfaction with Reguilon’s performance since joining United. He acknowledged that it’s not easy for a player to adapt to a new team, especially with limited preparation time, but he commended Reguilon’s experience and ability to quickly integrate into the squad.
Ten Hag stated, “We’re very happy with him, and it is not easy to come into a team you don’t know. And there was less preparation. Of course, he’s experienced. [He has] a very good base, but then still [needs] to understand our rules, and we didn’t have the time to teach them, to coach them in training or in the preparation time, like in a pre-season. But he had to go straight in, and he did well.”
While Reguilon’s loan agreement provides Manchester United with the option to terminate it at the beginning of next year, his impressive start may tempt the club and Ten Hag to consider keeping him for the entire duration of his loan contract.
In the short term, the left-back has the opportunity to establish himself in the starting lineup, especially given the absence of other options in that position. Diogo Dalot temporarily filled in at left-back following Luke Shaw’s injury, but the Portuguese player is expected to take up a right-back role due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence.
While it’s too early to predict Reguilon’s future, the former Real Madrid graduate has a significant opportunity to secure a permanent deal with his standout performances.
