Manchester United appears to be in the market for a new midfielder next summer, and a player from West Ham could be ready for the step-up.
Lucas Paqueta was on the verge of a £70 million move from West Ham United to Manchester City, but the transfer did not materialize, and the Brazilian midfielder remained with the Hammers.
Since then, Paqueta has been in exceptional form this season, and it seems unlikely that he will stay at the London Stadium beyond this season.
Darren Bent, speaking on Talksport, believes that the Brazilian midfielder could be good enough for Manchester United.
Paqueta’s quality is evident, and he is seen as a potential starter at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag’s leadership.
Bent expressed his opinion, stating: “I think he’s good enough to start for a Champions League side, definitely. He gets into United’s 11; I’d play him alongside Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro; he’d be ideal for them.”
While there hasn’t been a credible link between Manchester United and the Brazilian midfielder yet, he could be a strong option for the club next summer.
Last season, Paqueta scored four goals and provided three assists for David Moyes’ side, and this season, he has already contributed with a goal and an assist for the Hammers.
What’s particularly impressive about Paqueta is his mentality. Despite the failed move to Pep Guardiola’s side, he has remained focused and continued to deliver outstanding performances for West Ham. This mentality aligns with what Manchester United has been seeking in players.
Paqueta’s playing style is somewhat similar to that of Mason Mount. According to FBREF, he excels in progressive passes, as well as tackles, clearances, and interceptions, making him an intriguing option.
However, considering the £70 million price tag, especially after United paid £55 million for Mount, this potential deal may face challenges in materializing.
