Live Updates: Manchester United vs Manchester City
Today marks the 191st derby clash between Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag’s side comes into the game with a three-game winning streak, securing victories in the league against Brentford and Sheffield United, along with a dramatic last-minute triumph over Copenhagen in the Champions League midweek.
Although these wins were not entirely convincing, United fans may feel a sense of apprehension due to the team’s shaky start to the season.
On the other side, City has experienced some inconsistencies in recent weeks, with Premier League losses to Wolves and Arsenal.
However, they bounced back from their defeat at the Emirates with wins against Brighton and Swiss side Young Boys.
Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the special nature of the derby but downplayed its significance in the title race, as City aims to catch up with early leaders Tottenham.
In a separate development, Andre Onana has expressed his support for his Manchester United teammate, Alejandro Garnacho.
This comes after Garnacho posted an image on his X account, featuring Onana celebrating his last-minute penalty save that secured United’s 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the crucial Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford.
The post included two gorilla emojis, which some fans criticized for racial connotations, leading Garnacho to delete it. The Football Association is now investigating the matter.
Onana later clarified on Instagram that he understood Garnacho’s intention was to convey “power and strength” with the gorilla emojis and suggested that the issue should not be escalated further.
Manager Ten Hag confirmed that discussions with the FA are ongoing, emphasizing the unity of the team and pointing to Onana’s statement.
