Jarrod Bowen, a Hammers winger, carved his name in club history by scoring a late winner for David Moyes’ side in Prague.
Bowen sprinted onto Lucas Paqueta’s defense-splitting through-ball and rifled past Pietro Terracciano.
Said Benrahma’s penalty from Cristiano Biraghi’s handball gave West Ham the lead just after the hour mark.
However, Fiorentina equalized a few minutes later when Giacomo Bonaventura finished brilliantly in the far corner.
The Hammers were under intense pressure at times but stayed tight until scoring a late winner to secure a long-awaited victory.
West Ham has won its first major title in 43 years. It is also their second European trophy, following the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965.
The Hammers will also compete in the Europa League next season.
‘Creates a slew of issues
Bowen, obviously, received the majority of the accolades for the winner. Paqueta, on the other hand, received a lot of accolades for his performance and assistance.
In their post-match rating pieces, several Italian media sites praised the 25-year-old Brazilian.
Paqueta received a 7 out of 10 rating from Goal Italia for his efforts in claret and blue.
‘His location between the lines causes numerous issues for Fiorentina,’ they added.
‘He gradually drops, but at the proper moment, he returns to center stage with the great ball for Bowen in the match-deciding action.’
Meanwhile, Tuttomercatoweb rated him 7.5 out of 10.
‘He does the samba in attacking midfield, trying to elude an inspired Amrabat,’ they wrote.
‘With a champion’s touch, he finds the right gap to send Bowen through on goal.’
