Man Utd duo Lisandro Martinez and Scott McTominay involved in fiery dressing room incident
Lisandro Martinez and Scott McTominay have both impressed for Manchester United this season.
Lisandro Martinez and Scott McTominay of Manchester United were two players who ‘aired their opinions in a stormy inquest following the club’s 6-3 defeat to Manchester City last weekend. At the Etihad, the Red Devils were easily defeated by their fierce rivals, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both scoring hat-tricks. And it looks like the guys in the away dressing room were not pleased with the outcome…
Manchester United had no response for City, as Pep Guardiola saw Foden and Haaland emerge to the fore and put Erik ten Hag’s team to the sword.
And the Red Devils’ locker room was a heated place to be after the game.
Martinez and McTominay, according to The Sun, were “the most vociferous players” as United players discussed the defeat following Ten Hag’s promise of an inquiry.
According to a source, several tempers ‘bubbled over’ during the ‘frank and passionate’ exchanges, with Ten Hag asking each player one by one to explain their mistakes to one another.
“Some players were blaming others for not covering, which sparked heated debate.”
“One player advised another to ‘focus on your own (crap) game.’
“Things have settled down, but tensions remain high.” Ten Hag enthusiastically supported it.
“He’s told them that he wants to see that degree of enthusiasm on the field, not after the game.”
“Erik wants them to be upset,” they added. It was candid and heated, which is exactly what he wants to see.
“I’m amazed he didn’t encourage it.” He desires that they have that battling spirit.”
Last season, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick controlled the roost, United players struggled to recover from painful defeats.
Ten Hag, on the other hand, received a response from his team on Thursday night, as they battled their way to a 3-2 Europa League triumph over Omonia.
United will now look to put the City catastrophe behind them by defeating Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
They lost the same game the previous season, with Anthony Gordon scoring the winner in a 1-0 triumph in April.
But United will go into the game as favorites, especially with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial looking like a lethal front-two.
Meanwhile, another piece of information has emerged regarding Harry Maguire’s vacation.
The England international is currently injured and was recently allowed to fly to Portugal, despite Ten Hag earlier requesting that his players keep together as a group.
And squad mates are upset with Ten Hag for breaking his own rules with the 29-year-old.
“Erik has high expectations for everyone. “He expects all injured players to stay with the team,” an insider said.
“He believes they should work as a team, injured or not.”
“However, in Harry’s instance, he believed there were special circumstances.” He wanted him to take a mental break from the stress.
“He went away with his family, and Erik thinks it will help him heal from injury and find his form.”
“However, it’s not a good look when the club captain fails to board the plane to Cyprus and is instead allowed to play golf in Portugal.”
However, a United spokesperson has stated that Maguire requires the trip in order to return to action as soon as possible.
“Harry was allowed to travel to Portugal to complete his recuperation while the rest of the squad was in Cyprus, allowing him to benefit from the same warm weather circumstances,” they claim.
“Harry was accompanied by a MU physiotherapist and has been working diligently on his recuperation.”
“He is scheduled to return to Carrington on Sunday.”
