Cristiano Ronaldo sends five ‘heart-touching’ messages to Man Utd fans after failed efforts to leave

Cristiano Ronaldo was kept out of Manchester United’s starting lineup for the third game in a row, with Erik ten Hag opting to play Marcus Rashford as the primary striker.

Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked Manchester United fans for their support following Erik ten Hag’s side’s third consecutive win, a 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

Jadon Sancho scored the game’s sole goal midway through the first half as United won by a single goal at the King Power Stadium. Following a dismal start to the season, United have since won their past three games against Liverpool, Southampton, and Leicester, pushing them up to fifth in the process.

It’s been a fantastic turnaround for the Red Devils, who were highly chastised at the start of the season for performances against Brentford and Brighton. Ten Hag has already dealt with a lot in his short time at the club, including Ronaldo’s wish to depart Old Trafford in July.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner wanted to leave United before the transfer window closed in order to continue playing in the Champions League. However, with the transfer window now closed, Ronaldo will remain at the club and compete in the Europa League this season, following United’s sixth-place result in the Premier League.

Ronaldo has been in and out of the United starting lineup since the 4-0 thrashing by Brentford. Ten Hag has gone with Marcus Rashford as the lone attacker, with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga playing wide. He has appeared off the bench in each of their previous three games, including Thursday’s triumph over Leicester.

After the game, Ronaldo took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the 3,000-plus fans that traveled to the East Midlands. “Thank you for your help,” he said.

Despite his attempts to persuade Ronaldo to leave United, Ten Hag claims that the former Real Madrid and Juventus icon is still a part of his plans, and has verified that Ronaldo has accepted his situation following more discussions about his near future. “Yes, we have spoken several times. We’re all on the same page, “During a pre-match press conference, the Dutch tactician stated. “He wouldn’t be here else.”

When questioned if the goalscorer supreme could fit into his system, Ten Hag added: “The demands are determined by the style of play. In training, it is evident that he possesses the necessary skills. So he’ll fit in because he’s a terrific player, which I don’t have to explain. He possesses the exceptional ability, thus he will fit into any system or style.”
