Cristiano Ronaldo given new nickname by Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez, a Manchester United defender, looks to have a close friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo.

After commenting on one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Instagram postings, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez appeared to disclose his nickname for the Portuguese star.

Martinez, who joined United from Ajax in the summer, has swiftly become a fan favorite at Old Trafford, with the center-back playing a key role in the Reds’ recent turnaround in form.

United have won four straight Premier League games, with Diogo Dalot, Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Tyrell Malacia forming a much superior defensive backline in recent weeks.

The Argentine defender appears to get along well with all of his teammates, and he has already struck up a friendship with the 37-year-old Ronaldo.

Ronaldo shared an Instagram photo of himself in action during the win over Southampton. Martinez was among many who reacted to the post, as was to be anticipated.

Martinez came up with the phrase “El bichoooo,” which translates to “The Bug” in English. It’s unclear why the United defender refers to his teammate as “the bug,” but the two appear to have developed a good connection in recent months.

Martinez recently stated that the Reds would require Ronaldo’s goals once more as Erik ten Hag’s team continues to develop following a poor start to the season.

“We know how important Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals are,” the defender stated. “It’s crucial that he scored for his confidence and the squad.”

Ten Hag also complimented Ronaldo when he scored his first goal of the season in the Europa League against Sheriff on Tuesday, stating that the veteran striker is ‘completely committed to the cause at Old Trafford.

According to the Dutchman: “I believe he is completely devoted to this initiative and to this team, and he is fully involved. You can see connections growing around him, and he is establishing connections, so I’m pleased.”

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in all competitions for Manchester United last season, is expected to play for Portugal in future international matches against the Czech Republic and Spain.
