Casemiro hints at favoured Man Utd midfield partner with “special relationship” message

Casemiro has intimated to new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag that his ideal midfield partner could be the much-maligned Fred.

The Brazilian joins United from Real Madrid for a fee of £60 million and arrives as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders. After watching the win against Liverpool from the stands at Old Trafford, he is likely to slot straight into their starting lineup against Southampton on Saturday.

Ten Hag has used a variety of midfield alternatives in an effort to discover his ideal set-up. Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, and Fred have all played multiple positions.

And Casemiro has now hinted that he believes Fred, his Brazilian international teammate, will be the perfect man to pair him with. United’s newest signing praised his countryman, calling him a “fantastic player.”
